Firearm cleaning solvents are specifically designed to dissolve and remove metallic fouling (copper, lead), carbon build-up, and powder residues that accumulate after shooting. Their targeted chemical action restores the optimal condition of the barrel and internal components, ensuring accuracy, consistency, and mechanical reliability. Used regularly, they help extend component lifespan while maintaining constant performance, even after intensive shooting sessions.

In a standard maintenance process, solvents are used after initial mechanical cleaning or degreasing. The firearm, previously secured and disassembled according to the manufacturer’s recommendations, is treated by applying the solvent with a bore brush, patch, or appropriate cleaning tool. After the required dwell time depending on the type of fouling, the dissolved residues are removed with clean patches, leaving the metal surfaces free from contamination.

A high-quality solvent should work quickly on different types of fouling while preserving the integrity of materials and finishes. It must be effective on soft metals such as copper or lead, while also removing carbon build-up and powder fouling without damaging internal barrel treatments or sensitive components.
